Insufficient Higher Order Thinking Skill in Reading Comprehension Exercises of an English Language Textbook
HOTS become the standard of education nowadays. Teachers have already tried many ways to improve students’ HOTS in 4 English Skills (Reading, Writing, Listening, and Speaking). Especially for Receptive Skills like Reading and Listening, students should be able to reach HOTS. Reading comprehension in English for Foreign Language students moreover in Indonesia is considered to be the most complicated skills but at the same time it is the single most important fundamental. Thus, English textbook should present a text or some comprehensive questions which lead students to think in higher order. This research aims at analyzing the extent to which the HOTS and the indicators of reading skills are assessed in the reading comprehension exercises. The focus of this research is content analysis, and the result showed that the textbook only assessed topic without any further evaluation. The researcher recommended the readers to improve students HOTS by having another sources of reading Text beyond the provided Textbook.
